FAQ

  • How long will my appointment take?
Its impossible to tell how long a tattoo would take due to many individual variables including skin types, how well the ink takes to your particular skin, placement time and many other variables. Please make sure you do not have anything planned immediately after your appointment so the artist has enough time and does not feel rushed to create their best work for you.
  • Why cant I use numbing cream?
Elle Ink does not tattoo numbed skin as many creams/ointments affect the skin and can make the tattooing process very difficult. This may lead to poor healing of the tattoo, drop out, and other possible issues. Elle Ink uses a specific mild numbing spray if needed which does not cause problems with the tattoo.
  • How do I book in?
To book in, please visit the "BOOK IN" menu option for all information.
  • What activities should I avoid for 2 weeks post tattoo?
Do not expose your tattoo to sun, wet environments, harsh chemicals and moist environments during the first 2-3 weeks post tattoo appointment. Exposing your tattoo to such environments (other than a light shower) will cause poor healing to your tattoo, leading to drop out, patchiness and possible infection. Such activities include but are not limited to: + swimming (salt, fresh and chlorinated water) + spas, saunas, ice baths, steam rooms and hot rooms + long showers and baths + fake tan + exfoliating the area, using peals, harsh soaps or non-specific tattoo moisturisers on the area + hot yoga, extreme and constant sweating on the area + any sun exposure and sunscreen on the area (as this is a harsh chemical) + constant exposure to water (i.e keeping a wrist tattoo submerged while washing dishes) + rubbing of the tattoo on clothes
  • Should I re-apply the second skin?
No. If the second skin comes off early, keep it off. Reapplying may trap bacteria under the bandage and lead to infection.
  • How long does it take for my tattoo to heal?
Your tattoo undergoes many changes during the healing process, your skin grows back over the open tattooed area (which is an open wound) at the 2-3 week mark and is fully healed at the 6 week mark.
  • Why does my tattoo look lighter/duller?
All tattoos heal lighter/duller than the bright and intense black/colour of when it was first done. This is because when you are tattooed, the ink is deposited underneath the first layer of skin; as the tattoo heals, the first layer of skin heals back over the top of the ink and mutes the colour. This is a completely normal and expected change to the tattoo. Even if it was re-done, the skin will still grow back over the top and heal the lighter colour. This is part of getting a tattoo. Very fineline tattoos heal even lighter due to the thinness of the lines and contrast to the skin, if you are wanting a heavier tattoo, you will need to have a thicker lined design.
